Introduction to the LEADTOOLS DVD Module

The LEADTOOLS DVD Module has everything needed to create and burn DVD images, including a DVD Imager interface, DVD burner, DVD writer, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 multiplexers, MPEG Audio encoder, LEAD MPEG-2 Standard video codec (Encoder/Decoder), several DirectShow® filters to resize and crop videos, as well as filters to convert video color spaces.

The LEADTOOLS DVD Module adds on to the LEADTOOLS Multimedia SDK and includes a fully enabled development license for the following components:

DVD Support (Including Support for DVD Title/Chapters and Burning)

MPEG Multiplexers

Codecs

MPEG-2 Support

DirectShow Video Post-Processing Filters

Obtaining Release Versions of the DVD Module Specialized Components

You need to unlock the LEADTOOLS DVD module to use the above filters in RELEASE mode. For more information, refer to the LEAD DirectShow Modules Evaluation Mechanism.

You can develop and perform testing with the development-only editions of the components, codecs, and filters contained in this product. Development-only editions of the codecs display either "LEAD Encoder" or "LEAD Decoder" in the video stream.  Development-only editions of the filters and components display a licensing dialog from time to time while the program is running. Development-only editions do not expire but may not be used in a production environment under your license.

In order to deploy the DVD Module specialized components, complete the Deployment License Application form (a link can be found in the LEADTOOLS Licensing Help File under the topic, "Deployment License Application", and procure any necessary deployment licenses. If you have any questions concerning licensing the codecs/filters, contact LEAD licensing at licensing@leadtools.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I get rid of the "LEAD MPEG-2 Encoder" message from my video?

A: Contact Sales@leadtools.com to receive and sign the duplication and distribution agreement with LEAD and obtain release editions of the DVD Module specialized components.

Q: I created a DVD using the DVD Module and the image is not playing on my DVD properly. What went wrong?

A: First, make sure you selected the "MPEG-2 DVD" option in the LEAD MPEG-2 Professional Encoder or in the LEAD MPEG-2 Encoder. Second, make sure you create the DVD using the appropriate TV standard (NTSC or PAL) for your DVD player. Generally, you use NTSC in the United States and Japan, PAL in Europe

Q: I am getting a warning message box when I attempt to convert a file to DVD format. How do I get rid of it?

A: Make sure the size of the video file you are converting is one of the acceptable video sizes. If you get this message box and do not care about the video being acceptable by the DVD players then click "Yes", otherwise abort the conversion by clicking "No", and then resize the video. You should enable the resizing options in the DVD authoring demos. We recommend using the largest size (720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL). Use the resize filter or the crop filter to get the size required by DVD players.

Q: I created a DVD image. How do I play it?

A: You need to use DVD player software to play it from the DVD image folder. You can also burn the image onto DVD using DVD burning software, and then play the DVD on a consumer DVD player. LEAD currently provides a DVD burning demo, which can be used to burn a DVD image onto a DVD disk

Q: I am playing the LEAD generated .VOB file, and I am having problems (don't hear audio or the video plays strangely).

A: You should play the file called VIDEO_TS.IFO from the VIDEO_TS folder. While you can play the individual .VOB files, that is not recommended because the information for decoding the .VOB file properly is in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file.

Q: How do I burn DVD form LEADTOOLS DVD Module?

A: You can burn DVD using the DVD Burner demos. For more information on how to add DVD burning support to your application, refer to How to use the DVD Burner to burn ISO files and DVD images topic in the LEADTOOLS Multimedia API help file, or refer to How to use the DVD Burner to burn ISO files and DVD images (Visual Basic) topic in the LEADTOOLS Multimedia help file (.NET, C API).

Q: Where is the LEAD DVD Burner (2.0) Filter? It does not show up in GraphEdit

A: The LEAD DVD Burner (2.0) module is a COM object, not a DirectShow filter. Hence, it will not show up in GraphEdit.
