The Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMF) format supports scalable objects, such as lines, ellipses and TrueType text. Such objects do not get distorted when zoomed to levels other than 100%. The EMF format also supports bitmap images, which can get distorted when zoomed in or out.
The attached screenshot shows 2 parts of an MS Word file that contains EMF images inside it. The top image is a Raster EMF while the lower image is a vector EMF. Both were produced using LEADTOOLS ePrint, which supports both Raster and Vector EMF.
