ePrint - Excel, Printing Preference DPI

When printing to the virtual printer from all other
applications, the DPI remains at that previously set. When doing so in Excel (Office 2003) however,
it always defaults to high – 600 dpi.
This is reproducible on XP Pro SP2.
I have not tested on other platforms.
Would appreciate someone being able to point out a way in
which to keep this setting to the 300 dpi option.

Which version of ePrint are you using? How are you setting the
DPI? You need to set it from the Printers and Faxes folder in
Control Panel so that the setting is global. If you set it from
within Excel it will be for the current document only. Also, set
ePrint as the default printer because Excel takes the settings of the
default printer.

This was with ePrint IV.
I have requested of someone, who is running version 5, to perform the same
test. I am awaiting their response.
The default DPI was set using the Printer and Fax
control panel, properties, printing preferences, graphics. As I said, when doing so it works for all
other apps besides Excel. Please see if
you can replicate this in your office.

Just got back the response from the tester using ePrint 5.
"Mike,
I get the same results that you get. First I opened the
printing preferences for my ePrint printer and changed them to 150 dpi. Then I
opened excel and the resolution was set to Custom 600 X 600. I changed the
resolution to 150 and printed, then closed Excel. I checked the ePrint printer
from Printers and Faxes and it was still at 150 dpi. But sure enough, I opened
Excel back up and it was set to Custom 600 X 600 again. It seems to only happen
when printing from Excel though."
So it seems, as I suspected, that the same issue occurs with ePrint 5.

This is a problem with Excel, not ePrint. It seems to be that Excel will take the DPI settings from whatever your default printer is and apply that to ePrint. I tested 3 printers, one physical printer with a resolution of 600, another physical printer with 300, and then ePrint 5 set at 150 DPI.
When the 300 DPI printer was my default, ePrint would have custom DPI at 300.
When the 600 DPI printer was my default, ePrint would have custom DPI at 600.
When ePrint 5 was my default printer, it would show whatever is set in the control panel as ePrint's defaults.
Therefore, if you want ePrint 5 to show it's defaults that are set in the Control Panel's Printers and Faxes, it must be the default printer for your system. Consequently, I would suggest reporting this problem to Microsoft if you need to have another printer other than ePrint set as your default.

Thanks Greg. This is consistent
with what we have found and what I suspected was going to be your answer - based on the
fact that every other application seems not to have the same issue.
